Unsifted Topsoil<\/strong> (often called Raw Soil) is the same earth as our premium Sifted Topsoil, just without the extra processing cost. It comes straight from the source, meaning it retains its natural structure but will contain clods of earth, small stones, and organic roots.<\/p>\n

Why Choose Unsifted Soil?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cost Savings:<\/strong> It is significantly cheaper than Sifted Topsoil. If you are filling a massive area, these savings add up quickly.
\nNutrient Rich:<\/strong> Our topsoil is not fertile soil. We recommend mixing in compost if you want your plants to grow.
\nIdeal for Berms:<\/strong> Perfect for building raised mounds (berms) or shaping landscaping features where a smooth finish isn’t immediately necessary.<\/p>\n

The Trade-Off:<\/strong> Because it is raw, it requires some “elbow grease.”<\/strong> You will need to rake it out to break up clods and remove any grass roots or stones.<\/p>\n

Application Guide:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Large Lawn Levels<\/strong>: Use this to raise the level of a large garden, then put a thin layer of Sifted Topsoil on top for the final smooth finish.
\nVegetable Patches:<\/strong> If you own a rotovator (tiller), this is excellent. Dump it, add compost, and till it all together to break up the lumps.
\nTree Planting:<\/strong> Great for backfilling large tree holes.<\/p>\n

Common Questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is this just “Filling”? No.<\/strong> “Filling” is sub-soil (red and hard). Unsifted Topsoil<\/strong> is the top layer of earth but doesn’t have enough nutrients to grow plants in. It just looks rougher because it hasn’t been put through a sieve.
\nHow “lumpy” is it?<\/strong> It varies. Because it is a natural product, some loads are looser while others have more clods (especially in winter\/dry months). You should expect to do some raking.
\nCan I lay instant lawn directly on this?<\/strong> You can, but it won’t be smooth. We recommend putting a 3-5cm layer of Lawn Dressing<\/strong> on top of this raw soil to create a perfectly flat bed for your sods.<\/p>\n
