A red-toned sand used for construction and brickwork.
The Best Sand for Bricklaying.
Our Red Building Sand (often called “Pit Sand”) is unwashed and retains its natural clay content. This gives the sand a distinctive “sticky” or “fatty” texture when mixed with cement, making it far easier to work with than washed sands.
Why Contractors Choose Our Red Sand:
Superior Workability: The clay acts as a plasticizer, making the mortar hang well on the trowel and spread like butter.
Strong Bond: It grips stock bricks and blocks tightly, ensuring a durable wall structure.
Cost-Effective: The standard choice for boundary walls, home extensions, and general building work.
Application Guide:
Primary Use: Bricklaying (Stock bricks, Maxi bricks, Cement blocks).
Secondary Use: Bedding under paving or filling uneven ground.
Do NOT Use For: High-strength concrete (slabs/columns) or sub-soil drainage. For those jobs, use our Washed River Sand.
Common Questions:
What is the difference between Red Sand and River Sand? Red sand has clay/silt which makes it sticky for laying bricks. River sand is washed and clean, making it coarser and stronger for mixing concrete slabs.
How much building sand do I need for 1000 bricks? On average, you need approximately 0.6 to 0.7 cubic meters of sand for every 1000 standard stock bricks.
