Our Yellow Building Sand is a high-quality pit sand widely used across Pretoria East for finishing work. While it shares the “sticky” properties of red sand, it is generally “leaner” (contains slightly less clay) and has a finer consistency.

Why Builders Prefer Yellow Sand:

Smoother Finish: Because it is less coarse than red sand, it is easier to float to a smooth, flat surface on walls.
Lighter Color: It dries to a lighter color than red sand, which can be helpful if you plan to paint with light colors later.
Versatile: While it is good for plastering, it is also perfectly suitable for standard bricklaying if you prefer a single pile of sand on site.

Application Guide:

Primary Use: Plastering (Internal and External rendering).
Secondary Use: General bricklaying and masonry.
Mixture Tip: For plastering, a common mix is 6 wheelbarrows of Yellow Sand to 1 bag of cement (check with your builder as ratios vary).

Common Questions:

Should I use Red or Yellow sand? Generally, builders use Red Sand for laying bricks (because it’s stickier/stronger grip) and Yellow Sand for plastering over the bricks (because it finishes smoother). However, both can be used for bricklaying.

Is this sand washed? No, this is a Pit Sand. It is not washed because the natural clay content is needed to make the mortar workable. For washed sand (for concrete), view our River Sand.
