Crusher Dust is a fine by-product of the stone crushing process. While it looks like sand, it behaves very differently. When wetted and compacted, the jagged particles lock together to form a surface that is almost as hard as cement.

Why Contractors Use Crusher Dust:

Superior Compaction: Unlike River Sand which shifts under pressure, Crusher Dust locks tight. This prevents your pavers from sinking or “dipping” over time.
Artificial Grass Base: This is the industry-standard sub-base for synthetic lawns. It creates a smooth, hard surface that drains well but won’t dent when you walk on it.
Deters Ants: Because it packs so tightly, it is much harder for ants to tunnel through compared to soft building sand.

Application Guide:

Under Paving: Spread a 30-50mm layer, wet it lightly, and compact it with a plate compactor before laying your bricks.
Slab Fill: An excellent, cost-effective filler to top up levels before pouring a concrete slab.
Walkways: Can be used as a standalone hard-path surface (though it can be dusty in dry weather).

Is Crusher Dust better than River Sand for paving? Yes. River sand is round and rolls (like marbles), so it shifts over time. Crusher dust is jagged and locks together (like puzzle pieces). If you want paving that doesn’t sink, use Crusher Dust.
Does it turn into concrete? It packs very hard—almost like weak concrete—but it doesn’t chemically set. You can still dig it up with a pickaxe if you need to later.
Can I mix it with cement? Yes! A mix of Crusher Dust and Cement creates a very strong “dry pack” or topping screed for floors.
