1m³ Sifted Mushroom Compost – The “Black Gold” Soil Conditioner

A finer version of our mushroom compost, ideal for precise applications requiring smoother texture.

Transform Your Garden with Sifted Mushroom Compost.

Widely known among landscapers as “Black Gold,” our Sifted Mushroom Compost is a rich, dark organic blend that has been screened to remove lumps and debris. It is a slow-release fertilizer and soil conditioner all in one.

Why Choose Mushroom Compost?

Water Wise: It acts like a sponge. Mixing this into your soil significantly improves water retention, keeping your plants alive during the hot Pretoria summers.
Soil Breaker: Do you have hard, compact clay soil? The organic matter in mushroom compost breaks up the clay, allowing roots to spread and air to penetrate.
Finely Sifted: Unlike raw compost, our product is sifted. This makes it easy to spread by hand and perfect for top-dressing beds without looking messy.

Best Applications:

Vegetable Gardens: Tomatoes, spinach, and peppers thrive in it.
Roses & Shrubs: Provides the nutrient boost they need for flowering.
Seedlings: Because it is sifted, it is fine enough to use in seed trays (mixed with soil).

⚠️ Important Gardening Tip: Mushroom compost contains lime (making it slightly alkaline). It is fantastic for most plants, but avoid using it on acid-loving plants like Azaleas, Camellias, or Hydrangeas (unless you want pink Hydrangeas!).

Common Questions:

What is the difference between Mushroom Compost and Lawn Dressing? Lawn Dressing is a mix of soil and compost specifically designed for grass. Mushroom Compost is pure organic matter (no soil added) used to enrich flower beds and veggie patches.

Why is it called Mushroom Compost? It is the organic material (straw, peat moss, and manures) originally used to grow mushrooms. Once the mushrooms are harvested, the “spent” compost is sterilized and sold. It is rich in nutrients because mushrooms are very picky feeders!

Does it smell? It has a rich, earthy, organic smell, but because it is fully composted, it does not have the strong “raw manure” smell associated with fresh chicken or cow manure.
