Unlike “Building Sand” (Pit Sand) which contains clay to make it sticky, River Sand is thoroughly washed to remove impurities. This results in a “sharp” sand that locks together tightly, essential for high-strength applications.

Common Questions:

Can I use River Sand for bricklaying? You can, but it’s not ideal. Because it is washed (no clay), it isn’t “sticky.” The mortar will tend to slide off your trowel and won’t bond as easily to the bricks. Builders prefer Red Building Sand for brickwork.
Can I use it for plastering? No, it is too coarse. If you try to plaster with River Sand, the finish will be rough and gritty. Use Plaster Sand or Yellow Building Sand for smooth walls.
