Aged and nutrient-dense manure to enrich your soil.
For generations, gardeners have sworn by Horse Manure as the ultimate fertilizer for flowering plants. Our supply is fully composted and aged, meaning the initial “heat” has dissipated, leaving you with a safe, nutrient-rich organic material that won’t burn your plants.
Why Choose Horse Manure?
Soil Structure: Because horses eat a high-fiber diet (grass and hay), their manure adds significant bulk and organic matter to the soil. This improves aeration and drainage better than wetter manures like cow or chicken.
Nitrogen Boost: It provides a steady supply of Nitrogen, essential for leafy growth and vibrant blooms.
Warms the Soil: As it breaks down further in the ground, it releases gentle heat, which can help stimulate root growth in early spring.
Best Applications:
Roses: There is no better companion for roses. Dig a generous amount into the soil around the base of your rose bushes.
Fruit Trees: Excellent for mulching around citrus and stone fruit trees.
Vegetable Patches: Particularly good for root vegetables (carrots, potatoes) if dug in well before planting.
Note on Weeds: While our manure is composted to kill most seeds, horse manure can naturally contain some hardy grass seeds. We recommend mulching over it or digging it in well to suppress any potential growth.
Common Questions:
Is this manure fresh or composted? Our horse manure is composted and aged. We do not sell “green” (fresh) manure because it is too acidic and hot, which can damage plants. Ours is dark, crumbly, and ready to use.
Does horse manure contain weeds? Horses have inefficient digestive systems, so some seeds can pass through. However, because our manure is composted (heated naturally), most seeds are sterilized. Any that remain are easily managed by turning the soil.
Is it better than Cow Manure? Horse manure is “hotter” (higher in Nitrogen) and more fibrous/dry than cow manure. This makes it better for breaking up clay soil and feeding hungry plants like roses. Cow manure is “cooler” and better for general conditioning.
